What to Expect for the First Orthodontist Visit

Posted .

You may have noticed your child’s misaligned teeth and are wanting to consult with an orthodontist about correcting the issue. Making an appointment with a pediatric dental practice, or orthodontist is the first step. The dental team is there to help you navigate your way through the process, from scheduling appointments to maintenance and financing.

There are several things to expect when your child first sees an orthodontist. The team will usually give you an office tour, allowing your child to meet all members of the staff, so they feel comfortable. The goal for the first visit at Liang Orthodontics is to first determine whether treatment is recommended by Dr. Christopher Liang, and if so, what is needed and when to start. The orthodontist will typically perform a thorough examination, as well as order X-rays and images of your mouth and teeth.

If the orthodontist suggests getting treatment, we will take impressions of the teeth to help design a treatment plan. At this time, we will also go over the specifics, such as duration of treatment, cost, payment plans, follow-up appointments, and maintenance. We will also go over any retainers, braces, or expanders we recommend in detail. You can usually be expected to be here for one to two hours. If you agree with treatment, we will then schedule a visit to place the appliances. Appointments are usually booked every 6-10 weeks, to check progress and to make any adjustments.
