Did you know you need to work hard to maintain a strong and healthy smile when you have braces? Well, it’s true! In fact, there are things you need to do regularly to keep your teeth, gums, and appliance in tip-top shape. To help you, our orthodontist, Dr. Christopher Liang, is happy to tell you all about those things!
First, clean your smile and braces frequently. All you need to do is brush after every meal and right before bed, floss your teeth and braces once a day, and rinse your mouth daily. You also need to visit your dentist for your six-month checkups.
Second, maintain a tooth and appliance-friendly diet. This should include foods that contain Vitamin C and calcium. You should also avoid sugary, sticky, chewy, and acidic foods and drinks. It’s important to avoid these products because they can attack your teeth, break your appliance, and cause issues.
Third, increase your fluoride exposure. This is important because fluoride can strengthen your tooth enamel and help your smile prevent tooth decay and enamel erosion. It can keep your smile healthy and strong while you align your teeth.
